Yasir, I read your article with interest but I do disagree with some of the details. All your factual citations are based on Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. Although Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim are very important sources for Muslims which tell us about sunnah, every word in there cannot be taken as final because there has been in the past and there is a possibility that some of the hadith (and other narrations) that have been passed along through time might have gotten changed (un-intentional).
As far as veil is concerned I do believe that is down to the woman to decide whether she should cover her face or not. The fact of the matter is that face identifies a human. I cannot believe Islam would allow women to go out and interact with the world whilst not revealing their identity as you can imagine what kind of a communication problem this would pose. Take example of Hazrat Razia who was a commander; how could she have led an army without her troops knowing who she is?!
Hajj, which is the most religious and sacred event in Islam requires women to cover themselves but not their faces. This is again due to the very reason for identification and I do not believe Islam would ask women of two different things regarding the same issue.
I sincerely hope this leads you to think further and may Allah guide us all.
Dear Usman! AOA! As you said that Muslim Women have been asked not to cover their faces during Hajj. If Pardah does not include covering of face then what was the need of issuing such instruction for Hajj. Think about it…..

Dear Brother! I Think you have not looked deeply enough. Most of the Ahadees in the books of Ahadees are authentic one. And the one which are perfectly authentic are mentioned in those books as Zaeef Hadees. So you should look into the the refered books of Ahadees that wether these mentioned Ahadees are authentic one or zaeef one.

These texts dont really matter… it is basically a human right to cover oneself or not and cannot be dictated by someone. I am very amused about the kind of hypocrisy we have. At one place we force the women to wear the veil in Saudi Arabia… and at the other end we scream and shout when the veil is banned in another country… we should look at our own selves 1st. Basically my opinion is that its a personal choice … thats it. Thanks.

It is not a personal choice. Quran told women to cover themselves.
Aoa..mr usman brother..as both women and men were using cloths to cover theire bodies but the order in surrh ehzab is for woman to take vail while concerning male

i have read your article and so far i were reading , i were impressed. parda in islam is compulsory. why should we hesitate in accepting in? as for as identification matters, the saying is relaxed and an option is present, zarorat k waqt parda nahin just for the time being not in daily routine which we are spending. when you write an article, you should be confident about saying the truth…its need of time to follow islam in right way .Allah bless you.
